*Yeah, I know, movie!Steve Rogers is a doll and comic!Steve tends to be a jerk to the nth power, but comic!Steve’s jerkery is more just “god you are a really unpleasant jingoistic bastard” than any specific trait, so it’s easier to take that out of him. Idk, I just like that movie!Steve is less THE EMBODIMENT OF MURCA and more just a profoundly decent and brave young man who ended up in a really gaudy costume for the US Army to trot him out in.

Someone who is very confused.

OH MY GOD STOP CONFUSING ULTIMATES! WITH THE REAL COMICS UNIVERSE. No, Comics!Steve is not a jerk to the nth power, unless you make the poor life choice to read the goddamn Ultimates. And “a profoundly decent and brave young man who ended up in a really gaudy costume for the US Army to trot him out in” is pretty much comics Steve to a tee. The entire characterization of Movie Steve? Came directly from 616. That’s Steve Rogers. The man you describe is Ultimates. They are not remotely alike, except for the costume.

Lord, everyone responsible for the Ultimates needs to be punched in the kidneys with Thor’s hammer. So does everyone that confuses Ultimates with the real verse, UGH.

i’m sorry, fandom. your shipwar is in another castle.

from avengers #239 (stern, milgrom & sinnot)

This entire dynamic makes me happy.
Except I am horribly distracted by Hawkeye’s outfit. Seriously baby, why.

doesn’t she murder her and her whole family though

sigh. Some days, I really do hate new fans. But only when they are this goddamn ignorant.

PS: The Ultimates is bad for you. Stop confusing it with the real universe.

Also

I know that the CBR forums are where logic goes to die, but if I read one more thread there about how Ultimate Falcon needs to replace 616 Falcon, either in the 616 or the movie verse, I am going to find a way to reach through the computer screen and punch people.

No, the last thing the 616 needs is another boring ass scientist, and the last thing the movie verse needs is another boring ass SHIELD agent turned hero.

The stupid 616 pimp origin isn’t even his original origin, it was a bad retcon and can and should be ignored. You don’t have to change everything else that makes him special and awesome to get rid of it BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER PART OF HIS ORIGINAL STORY.

AAAAAAh.

I am not a fan of the Ultimate universe (I loathe them), but this was my favorite moment from the comics.

I get some of the hate when it comes to some of the characters from the Ultimate universe (Fury, Hank, and Banner/Hulk are major jackasses) and Mark Millar has some very facepalm story-plots. But characters like Tony, Thor and Peter (and a big portion of the cast of Ultimate Spider-Man) are just awesome (even Miles Morales he’s just a sweetheart).
Also Ultimate Steve is a very different character from the Steve we all know and love, but he’s not a one-dimensional jerk who is mean to everyone, and this moment here proves that. He is a total completely different person during his civilian life that when he’s going on the mission. Hell he is also nice to his team mates (the ones that aren’t assholes at least) during down time and likes to hang out with Tony from time to time (which is why I made an eyeroll when Bendis had Tony mention to Peter in Ultimate Spider-Man that he thought Steve didn’t like him). He was a major ass to Thor though but that was because Loki was manipulating reality and affecting their minds.
Also I am not counting anything from Ultimate Captain America mini series or anything written by Loeb because those stories were awful, everyone was OOC and they are mostly ignored anyway.
As for the Ultimates title itself, it is being written by Jonathan Hickman now and the tone is definitely better than Millar’s and the current Ultimates team is more likeable so I suggest you give it another try. Steve is not there though, after what happened with Peter Parker he quit (he might come back so who knows).

(reblogging from my personal)
I read Millar’s series and I personally was disgusted by it, what Hank did to Jan was completely ridiculous and out of line. I really love Jonathan Hickman’s Thor though, so I have thought of picking up Ultimates again.
Ultimate Cap is too stereotyped for me, he’s what everyone imagines Captain America to be. Right Wing, close minded, sexist, yeah I can go on but I think you get it. The reason why I love 616 Steve so much is because he’s tolerant and accepting of others, he doesn’t support any political party he just wants what’s right for the country.
And the whole ‘A on his forehead stand for France’ comment was completely out of left field. Especially since the French fought hard to protect their country during WWII and 616 Steve even mentioned ‘they were the bravest people I’ve ever seen’.
I sometimes like Ultimate Cap, I can tolerate him to a certain degree. He just needs a better writer agh :/

That’s exactly what’s wrong with Ultimate Bully (I refuse to call him Cap. He is not now, nor shall he ever be, Captain America.)
And at the end of the day, that’s all the Ultimates are - a group of bullies (when your sanest members are incestuous twins, you have problems.) And the dude wearing Steve’s suit in the Ultimates verse is, at times, the biggest bully of all. Which, considering the real Steve’s origin, is pretty sad.
I hate Ultimate Bully so much that I can’t even feel sorry for him in these panels. Cry, fake Cap! Cry! You deserve to be alone! You deserve to die all alone in a room with nothing but a French doctor for company (a French doctor who will be a much better human being than you, no doubt, but it’s not like that’s even remotely hard.)
